South-central plant to expand generation in project expected to be completed by 2019.
The Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant has received investment of $1.104 billion to build an additional 600 MW electricity generator at the Vinh Tan electricity center in Vinh Tan commune, Tuy Phong district, south-central Binh Thuan province.
Construction is expected to begin shortly and be completed by 2019, supplying about 3.6 billion Kwh.
The expansion of Vinh Tan 4 will utilize the available infrastructure at existing Vinh Tan 4 thermal power plants. The project has also been added to the Power Master Plan 7 and will be listed as an urgent investment project in the 2013-2020 period.
It will be conducted under an Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contract with Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) as the investor. The contractors are Doosan, Mitsubishi, the Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2, and the Thai Duong Corporation.
EVN said that the bidding process will strictly follow policies.
Binh Thuan is the largest thermal power center in the country. When all electricity plans are finished its capacity is expected to be 6,200 MW, directly supplying electricity to the entire south-central coast.
