On his visit to Vietnam for the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN) in Hanoi, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong found time to have dinner with his companions at an authentic Vietnamese restaurant.

Despite being head of the Lion City, Prime Minister Lee is very fond of modest traditional Vietnamese cuisine.

He loves homely dishes and has eaten in many local restaurants. He waited in line for 30 minutes to buy a piece of fried chicken in 2014.

For safety reasons, Cho Que Restaurant, where Prime Minister Lee dined, only had short notice of his arrival. The Head Chef, however, had selected the best of ingredients from each part of Vietnam to prepare a menu of up to ten different dishes. Each was presented beautifully.

Dishes on the menu included delicious crab spring rolls made from fresh Nha Trang crabs, famed Tien Yen chicken, which in days of yore were dedicated to emperors only, and excellent Phan Thiet half-dried squid. All are commonplace on Vietnamese dining tables.

The restaurant took the opportunity to introduce Vietnam’s unique and diverse cuisine to the Singaporean Prime Minister.

Cho Que is known as an authentic Vietnamese restaurant that preserves traditional dishes. Managed by the My Way Vietnam Food & Service JSC, which also owns a number of well-known restaurants and food and beverage outlets, Cho Que has been the proud host of many head of states.

Though located in the new community of Trung Hoa Nhan Chinh, Cho Que boast a “village life” decorative concept, resembling the countryside in northern Vietnam. Along with lots of popular signature dishes, the restaurant allows guests to recall their childhood in rural villages with buffaloes, deep wells, and bamboo fences.
