In the framework of the ASEAN Women’s Business Conference 2017 held by the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network (AWEN) in Manila recently, Ms. Le Thu Thuy, Vice Standing Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Southeast Asia Joint Stock Bank (SeABank), was presented the prestigious “ASEAN Women’s Entrepreneur Award” for her achievements in leading the bank.

AWEN is an association under ASEAN that was established to honor the outstanding achievements of women entrepreneurs in socioeconomic development of their country, the region, and the world, and to support them when facing challenges in finance, networking and training.

Ms. Thuy has worked at SeABank since 2008 and in recent years has made a major imprint in the bank’s shift towards becoming a modern retail bank. France’s Société Générale, for example, became a strategic partner and provides technical support and strategy.

SeABank has seen strong development since 2010 in its brand identity, operational structure, customer development strategy, human resources development, risk management, and technological investment. It was Ms. Thuy who connected with major domestic corporates and successfully developed strategic partnerships to create a strong foundation for the development of the bank’s retail banking segment.

The daughter of SeABank Chairwoman Madame Nguyen Thi Nga, Ms. Thuy joined SeABank in 2007 and has undertaken many positions in a range of divisions and proven her capacity and reputation. At the end of 2013, she was voted by staff as the excellent leader of the year and was honored by Global Banking & Finance Review from the UK as “Best Young Banking Leader Vietnam 2014”.

Ms. Thuy quick efforts resulted in SeABank’s transformation to a modern and multifunction retail bank with diversified products and services. She also directly connected with major domestic partners and successfully developed strategic relationships with PV Gas and Mercedes-Benz.

For her efforts and devotion towards the development of SeABank and Vietnam’s banking sector in general, Ms. Thuy has received prestigious awards such as “Most Active Banking Leader of the Year 2016” and “Best Young Woman Banking Leader 2015” by the International Finance Magazine (UK), “Best Young Banking Leader Vietnam 2014” by Global Banking & Finance Review, “Top 10 Businesswomen of the Next Generation” by Forbes, and “Young Outstanding Businesswomen Vietnam 2014” by the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association.

Last June, Ms. Thuy was named “The Promising Young Banker in Vietnam” by The Asian Banker (Singapore), an award for excellence in banking leadership in the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East.
