Chu Dau Ceramic – a member of the BRG Group - the continuing journey of Vietnamese cultural Quintessence

Chu Dau village is located in Thai Tan commune, Nam Sach district, Hai Duong city, about 80 km east of Hanoi. Chu Dau ceramic, is a high-class ancient Vietnamese ceramic representing “The rice civilization” since the 13th century and was honored as a “Royal symbol product” at the end of the 17th century.

Each product contains a range of meaningful messages as well as typical characteristics in style, glaze color, and sophisticated patterns rich in Vietnamese culture. Chu Dau ceramic holds an important position in the history of Vietnamese handicrafts and has been a traditional occupation for hundreds of years, and is currently being preserved and promoted by the Chu Dau Ceramic JSC, a member of the BRG Group.

“Hoa lam” vase: Has a round shape, symbolizing the sky, and a cylindrical shape symbolizing the straightforward man who is the breadwinner in the family and society. The history of Chu Dau ceramic was determined from the writing on the vase, discovered in 1980 at the Topaki Sarray Museum in Istanbul, Turkey.

According to many documents, the first businesswoman in Vietnam’s history, Ms. Bui Thi Hy, a talented ancestor of Chu Dau ceramic, lived in the 15th century. Thanks to the discovery of her writing on the “Hoa lam” ceramic vase at the Topaki Sarray Museum in Istanbul, Turkey, the history of Chu Dau ancient ceramic was determined in 1980.

Nowadays, Chu Dau ceramic products are carefully preserved and displayed at 46 famous museums in 32 countries and territories around the world, including Istanbul, Tokyo, and New York City. The “Hoa lam” Chu Dau ceramic vase is also among four Turkish national treasures. Chu Dau ceramic products have been exported to about 30 countries and territories around the world.

After so many ups and downs in history, recognizing the meaning and value of Chu Dau ceramic, in 2001, the Hanoi Trade JSC (Hapro), a member of the BRG Group, decided to establish the Chu Dau Ceramic JSC with the mission of restoring the Chu Dau ancient ceramic line, which was lost more than 400 years ago. With talented hands and creative minds, artisans at the Chu Dau Ceramic JSC successfully revived Chu Dau ancient ceramic and created thousands of products, revitalizing and upgrading Chu Dau ceramic to meet the expectations of customers at home and abroad. Chu Dau ceramic products are now widely used as gifts, household items, decorations, and collections, etc., or gifts as a cultural symbol of Vietnam presented by the government, organizations, and enterprises at important diplomatic events.

“Ty ba” vase: Has a shape like a Vietnamese musical instrument, symbolizing the land. The body of the vase is painted with patterns of the four seasons: Spring - Summer - Fall - Winter, meaning the four seasons of peace.

With the uniqueness of the product and the efforts to revive and develop premium Chu Dau ceramic rich in Vietnamese culture, the Chu Dau Ceramic JSC had the honor of receiving an award from top-ranking General Vo Nguyen Giap with nine golden words: “Chu Dau Ceramic - the Essence of Vietnamese National Culture”, and from Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc with ten golden words: “Chu Dau Ceramic - Vietnamese National Character, Shining Over 5 Continents”.

In its development orientation, the BRG Group will continually promote the export of strong Hapro products such as agricultural products, processed food, and handicrafts, including Chu Dau ceramic products, which represent the traditions and culture of Vietnam.

Nowadays, Chu Dau ceramic products have achieved an important position in the domestic market. Following the success of businesswoman Ms. Bui Thi Hy, under the direct and enthusiastic leadership of the President of the BRG Group and the Hapro Group, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, the BRG Group will focus on developing and turning Chu Dau ceramic into a national symbol through the production of Chu Dau products in their original style, which are kept in museums around the world, as well luxury gift sets rich in Vietnamese culture, increasing exports to many countries and contributing to the promotion of Vietnamese culture in international markets.
