Figures released by the General Statistics Office (GSO) on September 28 show that Vietnam continues to be a growing destination for international tourists.

International visitors stood at 12.9 million in the first nine months of this year, up 10.8 per cent over the same period of 2018.

September was also the fourth month this year and the second consecutive month that the number of international visitors to Vietnam exceeded 1.5 million. The other months were January, with 1.5 million, February with 1.59 million, and August with 1.51 million.

GSO figures also show that international visitors to Vietnam arriving by road in the first nine months rose the highest, by 23.5 per cent, year-on-year, while those arriving by air rose 8.3 per cent and those arriving by sea fell 0.6 per cent.

International visitors from Asia increased 12.5 per cent year-on-year, from Europe 5.3 per cent, from America 6.8 per cent, and from Africa 10.8 per cent.

The goal of Vietnam’s tourism sector in 2019 is to welcome 17.5-18 million international visitors and serve 85 million domestic tourists. Total revenue is to reach VND700 trillion ($30.1 million). The remaining months of 2019 are the peak time for international tourists to travel to Vietnam, so the tourism sector believes it will reach its goals.
