Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) 2019 is scheduled for March 27 to 30 at the International Exhibition Centre, 91 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi.

Vietnam has seen significant growth in its tourism industry over the last three years and the country has been named among world’s fastest-growing travel destinations by the UNWTO. Sustainability has not been guaranteed, however, because tourism development has not been combined with the effective use of tourism resources. Environmental protection and climate change response have also not been paid due regard in tourism activities.

To achieve sustainable growth, Vietnam needs to develop Green Tourism to contribute to the preservation of natural and other tourism resources, with a focus on environmental protection, controlling pollution at tourist sites, actively participating in activities to mitigate the impact of climate change, and so on.

Therefore, “Green Tourism” has been chosen as the main topic of VITM 2019, with an exclusive exhibition area and a number of workshops and events relating to “Green Development”.

According to the organizers, the Vietnam Tourism Association (VTA), exhibitors will showcase products and launch activities regarding ecological tourism, environmental protection, biodiversity, combating the killing of wild animals, and climate change response.

Highlights will include the Green Tourism Forum on March 27, which is expected to attract 1,000 participants who are leaders of both State-owned organizations and private travel companies as well as students at tourism schools.

Other events include a ceremony to honor outstanding travel companies in 2018, a conference on promoting online tourism, the “Vietnam Outbound Tourism - Opportunities and Challenges” and “Job Opportunities in the Tourism Sector” forums, introductory programs on tourism products and destinations from domestic and foreign travel agents and travel promotion organizations, an international street food festival, and artistic performances.

VTA Vice President Vu The Binh, Head of the Organizing Board of VITM 2019, said the event is expected to have 500 booths with a total of 720 exhibitors from 39 cities and provinces nationwide as well as 22 countries and territories worldwide. Some 85,000 visitors are also expected to contribute up to VND350 billion ($15 million) in sales.

Thousands of discounted tour packages and air tickets will also be on offer.

VITM is the leading travel fair in Vietnam and one of the key travel shows in the region. Held annually in Hanoi since 2013, its prime aim is to boost all three travel pillars: outbound, inbound, and domestic. VITM is an excellent platform for national tourism organizations and tourism-related businesses to promote, network, and increase awareness about destinations and brand names. Participating in VITM creates an unparalleled chance to engage and expand business, especially for the outbound travel segment. Last year the event welcomed more than 70,000 visitors.
