Vietnam Airlines announced on March 14 that it has added 67 maps of airports, including nine domestic and 58 global airports, to its app, to help passengers breeze through gates, lounges and shops, as it continues to invest in technology to enhance the airport experience.

By incorporating InMapz, the No. 1 indoor maps app, into its mobile app, the carrier is the first in Asia to offer a digital means of checking airport layouts and has the most such maps in the world.

Available on iOS and Android, the airport maps are available for free on Vietnam Airlines’ app and website. Customers are provided with a clear and detailed view of their surroundings via their phones from check-in and departures right through to baggage collection.

The launch follows the previous development of Vietnam Airlines’ mobile app, which allows users to search for flights, book tickets and pay through various online methods, download online mobile boarding passes, change seats, check flight schedules, receive notifications for flight delays and gate changes, and purchase additional services via a few simple taps.

The new version was built on a high-tech platform to bring customers a more user-friendly interface with enhanced functionalities.

Mr. Le Hong Ha, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines, said the maps give travelers the confidence to quickly navigate airports despite the unfamiliar environment and therefore make the travel experience more relaxing. “Onboarding innovative technology to leverage the potential of Industry 4.0 is essential to our continued success and further demonstrates our ambition to become a digital airline with Skytrax five-star status,” he added.

Mr. HD Vo, Founder and CEO of InMapz, said it is honored to work with Vietnam Airlines, one of the leading airlines in the region, to leverage the InMapz mapping platform, which integrates with mobile phones and location beacons. “Our open API also complements other technology such as digital display touch screen kiosks,” he said. “As leading, innovative companies, we believe technology can enable today’s smart airports to provide greater convenience to travelers.”

Skytrax, the world’s leading airline and airport rating organization, has ranked Vietnam Airlines as a four-star airline for three consecutive years. Positioning itself as a modern carrier with an internationally-recognizable brand characterized by traditional Vietnamese culture, Vietnam Airlines aims to achieve five-star status and become a major airline in Asia.
