Vietjet Air announced a two-phase interline partnership with the Doha-based Qatar Airways on October 12.

The first phase, which came into effect last month, enables Qatar Airways’ passengers to travel to and from destinations in Vietnam and in Taiwan served directly by Vietjet.

The next phase will soon allow Vietjet passengers to fly to more than 150 destinations around the world served by Qatar Airways using a single reservation across both airlines’ networks.

Mr. Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, said the agreement will offer its passengers even more choice, providing them with easy connections to Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi before transferring to their Qatar Airways flights. “We are delighted to welcome Vietjet to our growing roster of interline partners as they allow us to provide a more seamless experience for our passengers,” he added.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh, Vice President of Vietjet Air, said the partnership is a pillar of its strategy to diversify its services with the aim of offering passengers travel opportunities to destinations around the world. “We will continue to partner with other airlines based on advanced technology platforms to better benefit our passengers,” she said.

Qatar Airways is commencing two non-stop flights connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Doha, with two flights daily and ten weekly flights, respectively.

Vietjet Air and Japan Airlines recently agreed to code-share / interline on flights between Japan and Vietnam, their domestic services, and flights between Vietnam and other Asian countries. The two carriers will also cooperate in frequent flier partnerships, aircraft operations and maintenance, ground handling services, and training.

Vietjet boasts a fleet of 45 aircraft, including A320s and A321s, and operates 350 flights each day. It has already opened 73 routes in Vietnam and across the region to international destinations such as Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

It is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) with IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification. The airline was also named as one of the Top 500 Brands in Asia 2016 by global marketing research company Nielsen, the “Best Asian Low Cost Carrier” at the TTG Travel Awards 2015, which compiles votes from travelers, travel agencies, and tour operators throughout Asia, and “Asia’s Best Employer Brand” by the Employer Branding Institute and the World HRD Congress for many years.
