Vietjet Air has officially launched two new routes connecting Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport) and Chiang Rai with Udon Thani in northeast Thailand, which is home to the largest overseas Vietnamese community in the country. The signing was done in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc within the framework of the 35th ASEAN Summit, taking place in Bangkok from November 2 to 4.

The two new routes to Udon Thani will not only further expand Vietjet’s flight network in Thailand but also help connect travelers to destinations in Vietnam, such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang as well as cities in South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan (China), and many other Southeast and East Asian countries, bringing more travel opportunities at affordable prices to everyone.

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh was impressed by Vietjet’s outstanding efforts over the past years to achieve business expansion not only in Vietnam but also in the region. “The carrier has successfully built and developed Thai Vietjet,” he added. “Such activities contribute positively to economic, trade, cultural, and tourism exchanges between Vietnam and Thailand. I wish Vietjet great success ahead and hope the airline will transport more and more tourists from Vietnam and the region to Thailand and vice-versa.”

Thai Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the two cities of Chiang Rai and Udon Thani are tourist destinations not only for Thais but also foreign travelers. “I would like to thank Vietjet for its investment and contributions to Thailand,” he said. “The new routes will contribute to transportation and cooperation between the two countries of Thailand and Vietnam.”

The Bangkok - Udon Thani route will operate on a daily basis starting from November 25. The daily flight departs Bangkok at 7.20am and arrives in Udon Thani at 8.30am, and the return flight takes off from Udon Thani at 9.10am and arrives in Bangkok 10.20am. There is also an additional flight three days a week, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

Flights between Chiang Rai and Udon Thani are three days a week, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, starting from November 26. Flights depart Udon Thani at 6.05pm and arrive in Chiang Rai at 7.10pm, and the return flight takes off from Chiang Rai at 7.40pm and arrives in Udon Thani at 8.45pm. Passengers will soon be able to conveniently travel to Udon Thani from Bangkok and Chiang Rai in just over an hour.

With a modern fleet of over 80 Airbus aircraft, Vietjet is operating 150 routes covering destinations across Vietnam and internationally, with around 400 flights daily. To date, the airline has carried nearly 100 million passengers, while the number of passengers transported by Vietjet between Thailand and Vietnam and within Thailand has reached 9 million.
