Travelers embarked on The Anam’s new ‘A Day in the Life’ experience with a Vietnamese family from the countryside that’s been matched with their profile.

The day-long experience kicks off with fresh banh mi baguettes for breakfast at the host family’s favorite local bakery. The two families then continue to get to know each other over traditional Vietnamese iced coffee at the hosts’ favorite café.

To buy the ingredients for the afternoon’s cooking lesson, everyone visits the market together. After that, they go to a herb garden and a noodle-making house. The hosts introduce their guests to the local farmers and artisans and act as translators to help with them communicate with each other.

They return home with straw baskets brimming with fresh produce and the Vietnamese family welcomes their guests into their home in the countryside for an authentic cooking class. The children in the group play with their Vietnamese counterparts and teach each another their favorite games and songs.

During the class, the Vietnamese family shares recipes that have been in their family for generations and teaches the guests how to cook each dish traditionally without toning down spices or flavors, just as they do when cooking for themselves.

Dishes such bò nướng lá lốt (grilled beef in betel leaf), bún bò Huế (Hue-style beef noodle soup), and bánh xèo (crispy Vietnamese pancakes) are then served to the group as they dine together and exchange stories and experiences from their about their daily lives and respective cultures.

After the meal, the hosts give their guests a recipe book to keep before they head back to The Anam.

“When it comes to Vietnamese culture, nothing is as sacred as your family, and there is no better family experience than sharing a home-cooked meal together,” says the resort’s founder and owner Pham Van Hien. “Through this window to local Vietnamese culture, we hope our guests will return home with an impressive repertoire of authentic dishes to impress their dinner guests as well as new friends for life.”

The ‘A Day in the Life’ Cultural Cooking Tour is the latest initiative from the Cam Ranh property. It demonstrates their ongoing commitment to supporting the local population and its businesses. The resort recently introduced ‘The Anam Art Trail,' an art and photography tour into the homes and workshops of talented local artists whose works adorn the resort.

The ‘A Day in the Life’ Cultural Cooking Tour is offered daily at 9 am from The Anam and includes transfers by car or Vespa, a tour guide, entrance fees, banh mi baguettes, coffee, a three-course meal including soft drinks and local beer, recipes, and insurance. It's priced at 1,360,000 VND ($59) per person for a family or group of 5-6 guests. Prices for smaller groups and families are available on request.
