Guests staying at the Poulo Condor Boutique Resort & Spa on historical and beautiful Con Dao Island from May 1 to October 31 will enjoy 30 per cent off the published rate.

The “Sun & Sea Package” is priced from VND4.39 million ($220) for two persons and two children under 12 years of age per night, including accommodation in a suite or villa, daily breakfast, a choice of lunch or dinner for two, a 20 per cent discount on a second treatment at the spa, round-trip airport transfers, and daily shuttle bus to Con Dao town or Dam Trau Beach for the whole family.

The promotion is not available on public holidays and cannot be used in conjunction with other promotions. The resort also offers additional services such as flight bookings from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao Island and return (starting from VND3.9 million ($180) per person) and speed boat tickets from Vung Tau to Con Dao Island and return (at around VND880,000 ($40) per person per leg).

Poulo Condor was the name of Con Dao Island in the 18th century, named so after Italian trader and explorer Marco Polo visited the island. Poulo Condor Boutique Resort & Spa is ideally located alongside the wide sandy beach of Bai Vong and right at the foot of Chua Mountain, which provides an amazing backdrop to the property. It is the perfect place for those seeking the tranquility and serenity an eco-green natural beach setting brings.

Inspired by a harmonious blend of traditional Vietnamese and French colonial heritage design dating from the early 20th century, its 36 suites and villas embody the richness of Vietnamese culture with the vibrancy of contemporary architecture.

Con Dao served as a prison island for political prisoners during the French colonial era and in the later years the Saigon regime imprisoned its opponents in infamous cells known as “tiger cages”. The old prison buildings are still standing and are open to the public, as is a small museum tracing the island’s history.

In addition to having an interesting history, Con Dao Island also boasts immense natural beauty, with forested hills, deserted sandy beaches, and extensive coral reefs making for excellent diving. Eighty per cent of the land area of the archipelago is a national park, offering primary jungle teeming with interesting wildlife such as the endemic black squirrel and the crab-eating macaque. Beautiful beaches and hidden lagoons are also to be found, and with very few tourists Con Dao is a paradise that remains off-the-beaten-track.
