The Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) will introduce 30 new high-quality carriages on the SE1/SE2 route from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, including VIP carriages, on July 9.

The carriages were built with high-quality materials and advanced technology to ensure they are more stable, soundproof, and fireproof and will also feature an LED lighting system.

Along with the traditional four-bed and six-bed cabins, each of the new overnight carriages will have a couple of VIP two-bed cabins for travelers seeking privacy. The cabins have larger and more comfortable beds and come with free meals and beverages.

The new carriages will be also part of the five-star SE1 and SE2 trains operating on the Hanoi - Da Nang route starting from July 9, according to VNR. More high-quality carriages are to be added to other routes in the future.

At the end of 2017, along with the renovation and upgrade of nearly 40 old carriages, VNR introduced 30 new modern carriages for Tet (the lunar new year) this year. It has now built and put into operation 60 carriages of this type. The new high-quality carriages and new VIP cabins are part of efforts by VNR to improve the quality of its services and attract more passengers.

VNR also installed automated ticket systems last year at stations in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, to provide greater convenience and security. Early this year it also began to offer free meals to passengers in its new five-star carriages on the North-South line.

VNR ferried some 9.4 million passengers in 2017, down 4 per cent against 2016.
