The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has officially partnered with Union Square Saigon to develop the first five-star luxury hotel project in Vietnam, Mandarin Oriental Saigon Hotel, the signing ceremony for which was held at the Saigon Times Square Building on May 16.

Scheduled to open in 2019, the new hotel will be located at Union Square Saigon, which is known as “The Proud Gem in the Heart of Saigon” due to its location, with all four façades facing the “golden” streets of Nguyen Hue, Dong Khoi, Le Thanh Ton, and Le Loi.

Mandarin Oriental Saigon Hotel will feature 228 rooms, six restaurants and bars, a spa, a gym, and an outdoor pool of international standard. Other multifunctional spaces for events and conferences are the perfect destination for those passionate about luxury accommodation with the best services.

“Mandarin Oriental Hotel is a well-established luxury brand with a unique oriental heritage,” said Mr. Richard Baker, Chief Relationship Officer at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. “The culture of our Group lies in our legendary service qualities. Our hotels and resorts have their own personality, with a distinctive sense of place, thereby reflecting the best of the city or country, and we have built an enviable reputation for delivering creative hotel design and architecture, award-winning restaurants, and holistic spas and wellness centers. We look forward to creating unique experiences in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City and to raising the level of luxury hospitality in the city.”

Mandarin Oriental Saigon Hotel is designed by famous architect and designer Patricia Urquiola, who also designed the renowned Mandarin Oriental Barcelona in Spain. She is now one of the most famous interior designers, with many award-wining masterpieces and architectural projects all over the world. With a design orientation directly managed, created and decorated by Ms. Urquiola, Mandarin Oriental Saigon Hotel is expected to become the highlight of Union Square.

“Along with the unique values in architecture, location, history and culture of Union Square Saigon, the development of Mandarin Oriental Saigon Hotel affirms the stature of Vietnam in the international market,” said Mr. Johnathan Au, General Director of Union Square Saigon. “It is an important milestone that paves the way to welcoming more strategic partners of high caliber to invest in and develop Vietnam in the near future.”

Vietnam’s tourism target for the next three years is to cater to 82 million domestic tourists, welcome 17-20 million international tourists, achieve revenue of $35 billion, contribute 10 per cent to GDP, record export value through tourism of $20 billion, and, in particular, make tourism an important economic sector by 2030, with Vietnam becoming the top country in terms of tourism within ASEAN.

The impressive figures and positive targets show that tourism was and is contributing to economic growth, motivating other fields and contributing to the country’s GDP. The strategy of expanding and developing facilities, attracting international brands and large-scale, world class tourism operators and hotel projects are indispensable in achieving future targets.

The cooperation between the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and Union Square Saigon not only opens up a new direction for both parties’ sustainable development but also satisfies the development of tourism and hospitality by attracting prestigious international investors.

Mandarin Oriental Saigon Hotel belongs to the world’s leading hotel company and is certain to become the focal point in the city for local people and domestic and international tourists.
