International visitors exceed 1 million in October

International visitors to Vietnam in October reached 1,205,157, an increase of 17.6 per cent over the same period of 2017, according to the General Statistics Office.

There were 953,790 visitors arriving by air, accounting for 79.1 per cent of the total, 9,247 by sea, or 0.8 per cent, and 242,120 overland, or 20.1 per cent.

In the first ten months the number of international visitors was 12,821,647, up 22.4 per cent year-on-year.

International tourists from most foreign countries increased. Those from South Korea rose 48.3 per cent, Finland 33.3 per cent, Hong Kong 29.6 per cent, China 28.8 per cent, Denmark 16.4 per cent, Taiwan 14.8 per cent, Sweden 13.7 per cent, Italy 13.6 per cent, the Philippines 13.4 per cent, and Malaysia 12.6 per cent. Though the number of visitors from Africa is not large, it increased 19.7 per cent.

The number of domestic tourists in the first ten months was estimated at 67.9 million, of which 33.1 million stayed overnight. Total revenue in the first ten months is estimated at VND505 billion ($21.6 million), up 20.99 per cent year-on-year.

In the closing months of the year, the tourism sector will continue to implement solutions to maintain growth in international and domestic visitor numbers to achieve targets set for 2018, promote the exploitation of source markets through activities promoting tourism inside and outside of the country, prepare for the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2019 and TRAVEX Fair, enhance the application of technology in tourism management and promotion, and concentrate on State management over tourism.

Vietnam was recently ranked 14th among the best countries for expats to live, after InterNations drew on its 3.2 million members and surveyed over 18,000 expats from 178 nationalities living in 187 countries and territories. The best countries for expats were ranked by InterNations as part of its annual Expat Insider Survey.
