The Hanoi Transport and Services Corporation (Transerco), in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, officially introduced the first open-top bus tour in the capital on May 30.

With a capacity of 80 passengers each, three double-decker buses that meet environmentally-friendly Euro 4 emission standards will ply the route. Access is easy for all, with a descending floor at the doors for old people, children, or those in wheelchairs. The bus is also equipped with free wi-fi, USB charging ports, a refrigerator, CCTV, and an automatic card payment machine.

The buses pass through 25 streets with 13 stops at popular sites and cultural and historical relics such as Hoan Kiem Lake, the Old Quarter, the Hanoi Opera House, the Temple of Literature, Hoa Lo Prison, West Lake, and Tran Quoc Pagoda. An audio system presents information on each stop in different languages.

Buses run every 30 minutes from 9am to 6.10pm. Tickets are VND300,000 ($13.2) for four hours, VND450,000 ($20) for 24 hours, and VND650,000 ($28.6) for 48 hours. Passengers can hop on the bus at any time.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen The Hung, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, said it is a flexible and convenient travel service for sightseeing around Hanoi and should appeal to tourists. High-quality tourism products and services are being developed in the capital to bolster its tourism brand, he added.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the city welcomed 23.8 million tourists last year, including 4.9 million foreigners, up 9 per cent and 23 per cent, respectively, against 2016. It expects to welcome 25 million arrivals in 2018, up 7 per cent against last year, in which foreign tourists will reach 5.5 million, up 11 per cent.
