Cam Ranh International Airport in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa has officially opened its new T2 terminal for international services; the first terminal in Vietnam meeting four-star international standards.

With total investment of over VND3.7 trillion ($164 million), the first phase of the new T2 terminal was completed after 19 months of construction and will alleviate the serious congestion at Terminal 1.

On 50,000 sq m, the three-story terminal is much larger than Terminal 1 and capable of catering to 2.4-4.5 million passengers each year and 6-8 million passengers annually by 2030 after the second phase is completed. Its design is in the shape of a swallow’s nest; a specialty and symbol of Khanh Hoa.

Vietnam Airlines will run eight counters at T2, with two serving Business Class and Sky Priority passengers. The national flag carrier ferried more than 730,000 foreign tourists to Khanh Hoa last year, up nearly 35 per cent. The figure reached 500,000 in the first half of this year.

Cam Ranh International Airport is the main air gateway to the popular seaside resort city of Nha Trang, which is also the capital of Khanh Hoa. The province is endowed with beautiful natural sites, sandy beaches, and offshore islands.

With a ragged coastline stretching around 200 km, Khanh Hoa boasts well-known bays such as Cam Ranh, Van Phong, and Nha Trang.

Cam Ranh Bay is among three harbors in the world with the best natural conditions and also possesses beautiful contrasting colors, with white sands, blue sea and sky, and green mountains and forests. It was named one of the world’s seven best destinations in May by leading travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

Van Phong Bay, meanwhile, has wonderful nature and idyllic fine-sand beaches, surrounded by hills, mountains and forests, colorful coral reefs, and valuable marine creatures.

Khanh Hoa’s most well-known bay is Nha Trang, which is as one of the 29 most beautiful in the world thanks to pristine beaches, scuba diving, gorgeous islands, mountains, and rivers. The nightlife along Tran Phu Beach in the center of the city is lively every evening, with many beach bars and clubs. There is also a wide array of activities to partake in, such as surfing, snorkeling, bicycle tours, spa treatments, meditation and yoga, on or near the beach. Tran Phu Beach was recently listed among the most beautiful white sand beaches in the world by US News & World Report.

With the strong ancient culture of the Cham Kingdom, Khanh Hoa also has invaluable ruins and historical sites of interest. It welcomed 3.2 million visitors in the first half of this year, including 1.5 million international arrivals, up 23 and 58 per cent, respectively, year-on-year. Most international visitors came from China (63 per cent) and Russia (19 per cent). Numbers from South Korea, Malaysia, the UK, France, the US and Canada increased by between 5 and 37 per cent.
