Cambodia Angkor Air to conduct four flights a week until year's end, then daily.

Cambodia’s national flag carrier Cambodia Angkor Air has launched new flights connecting Cambodia’s capital of Phnom Penh and Vietnam’s tourism hub Da Nang in the central region.

This is the result of a cooperative effort between Cambodia Angkor Air and the Da Nang Center for Tourism Promotion to meet and promote visitor demand between the two locales and cultural exchange between the two countries.

Using Airbus A321 aircraft with four-star service standards, frequency is five times a week on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the initial period from now until the end of the year. Flights depart Phnom Penh at 1.30pm am and from Da Nang at 3.40pm, with a flight time of an hour and 20 minutes.

Tickets are from $50 (including service fees and taxes) one-way until December 31.

From January 1, frequency is expected to increase to daily.

The new service is one of this year’s strategic goals for Cambodia Angkor Air, as demand among Cambodians for outbound holidays is increasing, and to establish the strategic tourism triangle of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap (home of Angkor Wat), and Da Nang, which is being promoted by Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism. According to Ms. Chumteav Chhay Sivlav, President of the Cambodia Travel Agents Association, Vietnam is one of Cambodians’ favorite destinations for tourism, shopping, medical treatment, entertainment, and so on.

Prior to this new route, Cambodians had to transit in Ho Chi Minh City to reach Da Nang, which made the trip was less competitive than other routes to Phuket (Thailand) or Malaysia, according to Mr. Eng Molina, Director of the Branch Office and General Manager of Marketing at Cambodia Angkor Air. The new route will therefore attract more Cambodian tourists to the central city and is also expected to contribute to promoting economic growth in the two countries.

Deputy Director of the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center, Ms. Huynh Thi Huong Lan, highlighted the significant increase in the number of Cambodian tourists to the city this year, especially to the popular Golden Bridge. The new route will also help connect Cambodian and Da Nang tourism enterprises and open up more possibilities for European and North American tourists to Da Nang, as many go to Angkor Wat and Sihanoukville in Cambodia.

Cambodia Angkor Air currently operates a total of four routes connecting the two countries for a total of 112 flights a week, including Siem Reap - Da Nang, with a frequency of one flight a day.
