The International East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) Trade and Tourism Fair 2019 will take place on August 2 to 7 at the Da Nang International Exhibition Fair Centre, 9 Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, Cam Le district, central Da Nang city.

Organized by the Da Nang Industrial Promotion and Development Consultancy Center, the annual event aims to promote the exchange of trade, tourism, and investment between localities, organizations, businesses, and investors of countries on the East-West Economic Corridor and in ASEAN.

The fair feature 350 stalls from both domestic and foreign businesses in dozens of cities and provinces nationwide, as well as foreign organizations from countries such as Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, China, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, the US, Canada, and South Africa.

They will introduce a wide range of tourism, trade, and investment products, including electrical and electronic devices, information technology, wooden products and furniture, handicrafts, textiles and garments, leather goods and footwear, processed and canned food, and cosmetics. One of the most popular goods at the fair is agricultural products, thanks to participating countries focusing on cultivation.

Other notable activities of embassies and organizations include a seminar on South African Trade, Investment and Tourism Promotion organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Da Nang and the Embassy of South Africa, a seminar on the promotion of Indonesian Trade, Tourism and Investment in Vietnam by the Embassy of Indonesia, a seminar on supporting enterprises to develop products and increase exports held by VCCI Da Nang in coordination with the US Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Small and Medium Enterprise Project, and a seminar to introduce CPTPP agreements organized by the Embassy of Canada.

There will be an exhibition and seminar on the orientation, opportunities, and solutions in exports for businesses in the current economic context and a sightseeing tour to Ba Na Hills for trade promotion organizations and international organizations participating at the fair.

The International EWEC Trade and Tourism Fair was first held in 2007 and has been held annually since 2012. It aims to assist EWEC countries in promoting their economic, trade, investment, and tourism potential and to also foster cooperation. Last year, it welcomed some 350 stalls with the participation of nearly 200 domestic and foreign enterprises as well as 17 trade promotion organizations and business associations from different localities in Vietnam.

The EWEC is an economic development program initiated to promote the development and integration of four Southeast Asian countries: Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. The concept was agreed upon in 1998 at the Ministerial Conference of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), organized in Manila, the Philippines, and became operational on December 12, 2006.

It was created based on a road stretching 1,450 km across Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, from Mawlamyine in Myanmar to Da Nang in Vietnam, and is one of the key economic corridors in the GMS, which aims at deepening integration and trade and investment links and reducing poverty in the region.
