The route between the coastal city of Da Nang and South Korea’s capital Seoul has topped the list of the ten fastest-growing passenger routes in the Asia-Pacific region from Routesonline, the organizer of the world’s leading aviation network development conferences and events.

Routesonline’s research identified the top 100 passenger routes to/from and within the Asia-Pacific region during 2018 using the latest data from Sabre Market Intelligence. The list was then ranked by percentage annual growth compared to 2017.

There was a 71 per cent increase in passengers flying between Seoul’s Incheon International Airport and Da Nang International Airport, making it the fastest-growing route in the region.

More than 2.2 million passengers took flights between the two destinations, which links South Korea’s capital with the largest city in central Vietnam, compared with 1.29 million passengers a year earlier.

In second place was Manila - Iloilo, which connects the capital of the Philippines with Iloilo city on Panay Island, with total passenger traffic increasing nearly 47.9 per cent in 2018 to more than 2.1 million passengers.

Other rapidly-growing routes included Palembang - Jakarta, which increased 20 per cent, Hyderabad - Bengaluru (also 20 per cent), Jakarta - Semarang (17.1 per cent), and Jakarta - Medan (15.9 per cent).

Da Nang is in second position among the top 10 destinations favored by South Korean families and couples, just behind Osaka in Japan, according to recent analysis from tour operator Ticket Monster Inc. The analysis was based on the number of tours booked for the next two months via the travel agency.

South Korean tourists were the second-largest foreign visitors to Da Nang last year, with more than 1.4 million booking tours to the city.

Vietnam’s third-largest city, Da Nang is famous for its stunning coastline and sandy beaches and famous nearby world heritage sites such as My Son Sanctuary and Hoi An ancient town. It’s also a popular base for visiting the inland Ba Na Hills, beautiful Hai Van Mountain Pass, with views over Da Nang Bay and Marble Mountains, and the Golden Bridge, which opened last June.

It welcomed over 7.6 million holidaymakers in 2018, including 2.87 million international tourists, up 15.5 per cent and 23.3 per cent, respectively, over the previous year, according to the city’s Department of Tourism.
