A new direct route has been launched by China Southern Airlines connecting Da Nang and the Chinese cities of Beihai and Zhengzhou.

The airline will operate three flights each week on the route, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, according to the Da Nang Department of Tourism.

Using Boeing B737-800M aircraft, flights depart Zhengzhou at 10am and arrive at Beihai at 12.45pm and then Da Nang at 2.30pm. The return leg departs Da Nang at 3.30pm and arrives at Beihai at 6pm and Zhengzhou at 10pm.

Zhengzhou is a thriving city in Henan province with more than 10 million people. It is also a major transit point to other parts of China, with extensive rail and air links. Located in Guangxi province, Beihai is said to be the fastest growing city in the world. Passengers can easily head on to large neighboring cities in the province such as Nanning or Qinzhou by rail.

The direct flights aim to boost tourism, trade, and investment links between China and Da Nang. Two-thirds of the 24 direct international flights in Da Nang are now from the northern neighbor.

Da Nang welcomed 5.1 million tourists in the first nine months of this year, including 1.76 million foreigners, up 22.7 per cent and 49 per cent year-on-year, respectively, according to the latest report from the Da Nang Department of Tourism. Between January and June, over 280,000 Chinese tourists visited the city, the majority of whom were from Hangzhou, Chengdu, Shanghai, Beijing, Kunming, Shenyang, and Dalian. Chinese represent the largest number of foreign visitors to Da Nang, with 443,000 visiting the city last year, accounting for 26 per cent of the city’s total foreign visitors.

A Consulate General Office of China was opened in the city last month and investment and trade links between the city and Chinese businesses and agencies have developed strongly over the past few years.

Da Nang is the fifth city China Southern Airlines operates direct flights to in Vietnam, joining Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc Island. There are 206 flights between Vietnam and China conducted every week.

Headquartered in Guangzhou, China Southern Airlines is the largest airline in Asia, with more than 700 aircraft, and carries over 100 million passengers a year; the third-highest in the world. It conducts over 1,600 flights every day to more than 190 destinations in 41 countries and territories.
