The Saigon Railway Transport JSC in cooperation with FPT Telecom has launched new websites with the best offers on train tickets.

The websites giare.vetau.vn and giare.vetau.com.vn collect and provide different options on fares and promotions on all railway routes in the country.

With a friendly design in both Vietnamese and English, the websites also provide information of the name of the train, departure and arrival stations, timetables, available seats, and ticket prices, making it easier for passengers to compare fares and book the best trip.

Different payment methods are accepted, such as by Visa card, via Internet Banking/Mobile Banking/ATM, by QR PAY in the mobile banking app of Vietnamese banks, and at ticket offices at stations and at ticketing agents of the Vietnam Railway Corporation.

The new websites are also expected to reduce overcharging by certain agents and businesses. The Vietnam Railway Corporation has recently warned about several websites selling online tickets at times 20-40 per cent higher than listed prices. Others target foreign visitors with English interfaces and use a similar domain to the Vietnam Railway Corporation to trick customers.

More trains will be added to meet the greater demand during the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

Established in 1976, the Saigon Management Railway Company, the predecessor of the Saigon Railway Transport JSC, was a subsidiary of the Vietnam Railway Corporation. It became a joint stock company under the management of the Ministry of Transport in 2015.

The company is offering discounts of up to 50 per cent on travel from January 2 to 14 and March 1 to 31. Tickets are 20, 30, 40 or 50 per cent off if bought 20-29 days, 30-39 days, 40-49 days, or over 50 days before the date of departure on trains numbered SE3/4 and SE7/8 on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route and SE21/22 on the Ho Chi Minh City - Hue route. It also offers 20 and 30 per cent off tickets bought 20-29 days and over 30 days before the date of departure and travel along the entire route of trains numbered SNT1/2/3/4 on the Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang route, the SNQ1/2/3/4 Ho Chi Minh City - Quy Nhon route, and the SE25/26 Ho Chi Minh City - Quang Ngai route.

Passengers who buy tickets in a group will receive a discount of 6 per cent for 10-39 people, 8 per cent for 40-69 people, 10 per cent for 70-100 people, and 12 per cent for more than 100 people.

The company plans to invest VND300 billion ($13 million) this year to improve the quality of its trains and cabins.

Online sales currently account for 44 per cent out all tickets sold.
