The products reveal not only the talent and creativity of traditional artisans but also the strong development of Bat Trang ceramics village, contributing to the development of Vietnam’s ceramics craft.

Director of the Culture and Science Center, Mr. Le Xuan Kieu, said the exhibition at the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, also connects the values of the capital, from tradition and modern and tangible and intangible culture, providing visitors with a rich image of Hanoi.

Located next to the Red River within Gia Lam district, Bat Trang is a seven-century-old pottery village and one of the most well-known traditional handicraft villages in the country.

Its ceramics are for daily household use (bowls, cups, plates, pots, and jars), for worshipping, or for decorative purposes. Glazes include ancient pearl, crackle, dark, indigo-blue flower, grey flower, and melt.

The village produces many different types of top-class pottery items that are useful and beautiful and boosts a sense of pottery art. Artists nowadays use many innovations in production techniques and creativity in product features, and even daily household items have a certain beauty.

Visitors to Bat Trang can watch artists make ceramic products by hand or have a try themselves. They also can buy ceramic and pottery items from the village’s many shops.
