November 28: VN-Index gains ground

Strong afternoon makes up for dismal morning.

After a dismal morning session, the stock market surged sharply in the afternoon with bluechips leading the way. SAB was the most notable, rising VND6,000 ($0.25) to VND248,000 ($10.63) and giving the market a boost.

Green was also seen in large caps such as VNM, VJC, GAS, and VCB.

At 2.10pm, the VN-Index had increased 4.02 points (0.44 per cent) to 927.14 points, the HNX-Index 0.52 per cent to 103.72 points, and the UPCoM-Index 0.02 per cent to 52.15 points. Market liquidity was quite weak, with a matching order value of VND2.3 trillion ($98.6 million).

Bluechips became active as the end of the day neared, with VJC, PNJ, VRE, VCB, VNM, GAS, CTG and SAB increasing by VND8,000 ($0.34).

HPG was the most liquid stock, with over 4 million shares changing hands, but closed down 1.12 per cent to VND35,200 ($1.5), with foreigners net selling by more than 1.7 million shares. TGG impressed, reaching its ceiling of VND6,360 ($0.27) on 2.27 million shares and a bid surplus of VND5,540 ($0.23).

Similarly, the HNX-Index also climbed in the afternoon session and closed at its highest level of the day, while its strong cash flow was also a positive.

The VN-Index closed up 7.08 points (0.77 per cent) to 930.2 points, the HNX-Index 0.91 points (0.88 per cent) to 104.1 points, and the UPCoM-Index 0.04 per cent to 52.15 points. Market liquidity was low, with a trading value on the three exchanges of only VND3.1 trillion ($132.9 million).

Foreigners net bought for the fourth consecutive session, by VND30 billion ($1.28 million).
