The Minister of Finance has approved Mr. Le Hai Tra to be in charge of the Board of Directors at the $84-billion Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), following the departure of former Chairman Mr. Tran Van Dung, who recently became the new Chairman of the State Securities Commission (SSC).

Born in 1974, Mr. Tra began his career as a professional in an international accounting firm prior to joining the SSC in 1997.

After significantly contributing to the setup and launch of HoSE’s trading system in 2000, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Securities Market Development Department before permanently moving to the position of Executive Vice President, Deputy CEO, and Acting President and CEO of HoSE.

He was an Edward S. Mason fellow and earned a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) with dual concentration on Leadership and Financial Market Analysis, from Harvard Kennedy School in 2004.

After being trained as an economist at Hanoi University, Mr. Tra also completed the globally prestigious US Department of State’s Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program on Strategic and Financial Management at Boston University in 2003, with professional affiliation at US SEC and FED offices in Boston.

In conjunction with Mr. Tra’s appointment, the finance ministry also appointed Mr. Nguyen Vu Quang Trung, Deputy CEO and Board member at HoSE, to take charge of the HoSE Executive Committee, replacing Mr. Tra, who served in the role since November 2016.

At the close of the trading session on August 11, the VN-Index increased 4.09 points to 776 points, with value on HoSE reaching VND1,917 trillion ($84.26 billion).
