The VN-Index saw similar morning movements on May 30 as yesterday, quickly plunging to nearly 932 points, down about 20 points.

Large stocks lost ground and triggered some anxiety. GAS, VIC, SAB, MSN, VRE and VJC all fell, with GAS hitting its floor price as the others shed more than 2 per cent.

The VN-Index then recovered on the back of gains in many banking stocks.

HSX saw 108 gainers and 139 losers in morning trade, with the VN-Index closing down 0.59 points (0.06 per cent) to 951.59 points. Over 75.26 million shares changed hands worth VND2.1 trillion ($91.9 million), down more than 25 per cent in volume and 23 per cent in value compared to yesterday morning.

Three big gainers in banking - VCB, VPB and HDB - helped the market and their liquidity was the highest on HSX. Market momentum improved significantly in the second half of the session.

VCB rose 5.2 per cent to VND52,600 ($2.3), with more than 3 million shares matched, HDB gained 6.4 per cent to VND37,300 ($1.6) on 2.94 million shares, and VPB closed just short of its ceiling, up 6.3 per cent to VND44,100 ($1.9), with over 4 million shares matched.

CTG rose 1.3 per cent to VND26,400 ($1.15), on 2.96 million shares, BID 2.7 per cent to VND28,350 ($1.24) on 1.3 million shares, and MBB 0.2 per cent on 2.13 million shares. EIB gained ground after losing 0.3 per cent early on.

The VN30 saw an equal number of gainers and losers, with CTD rising 3.2 per cent, ROS 3 per cent, SSI 2.7 per cent, and BVH and GMD 2 per cent.

HPG and HSG were popular among investors, with 3.5 million and 1.66 million shares changing hands.
