All main indexes gain ground

VN-Index continues its upwards trajectory on May 17.

All main indexes on Vietnam’s stock market closed higher on May 17.

On HSX, the VN-Index increased 2.17 points (0.3 per cent) and the VN30-Index 3.46 points (0.5 per cent).

On HNX, the HNX-Index rose 0.63 points (0.69 per cent), the HNX30-Index 1.81 points (1.06 per cent), and the UPCoM-Index 0.57 points (0.96 per cent).

Liquidity on HSX reached VND4.4 trillion ($194 million), 23 per cent lower than yesterday, and on HNX was VND646 billion ($28.5 million), down 21 per cent.

The VN-Index opened at 725.03 points and increased dramatically, reaching 727.6 points in early trade before tumbling to its bottom of the day of 722.9 points mid-session then increasing again to close at 725.3 points. It stood at 727.9 points at the beginning of the afternoon session then fluctuated and closed the day at 727.2 points.

In food and beverages, VNM and SBT increased 2.4 per cent and 1 per cent, respectively. All other large caps fell: SAB by 1.3 per cent, MSN 0.8 per cent, BHN 0.6 per cent, and KDC 0.5 per cent.

In banking, STB rose 1.2 per cent, VCB 0.4 per cent, and MBB 0.3 per cent. EIB closed at its opening price while BID and CTG lost 1.2 per cent and 0.3 per cent, respectively.

In energy, PGD and CNG gained 4.9 per cent and 0.2 per cent, respectively, while GAS fell 0.4 per cent.

In real estate, KBC increased 1.3 per cent, KDH 0.5 per cent, and NVL 0.3 per cent. FLC shed 1 per cent and VIC 0.5 per cent.

Among other large caps, BVH and ROS rose 0.9 per cent and 0.2 per cent, respectively, VJC closed at its opening price, and MWG fell 0.4 per cent.

ROS saw the highest liquidity on HSX, with VND1.1 trillion ($48.5 million), followed by SCR with VND202 billion ($8.9 million) and HBC with VND196 billion ($8.6 million). The largest cap, VNM, ranked fourth in terms of liquidity, with VND179 billion ($7.5 million) changing hands.

On HNX, VCG rose 8.7 per cent, SHB 2.9 per cent, ACB 2.1 per cent, and VCS 0.6 per cent. PVI, NTP and VNR closed at their opening price while PHP lost 5 per cent and PVS 0.6 per cent.

Foreign investors net bought on HSX by VND105 billion ($4.6 million) and net sold on HNX by VND4.3 billion ($189,630).
